While everyone has different pain tolerance, many customers compare the laser hair removal treatment to “hot stone massage.” You should ask your doctor or laser hair removal specialist if your experience pain during the treatment.

A laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light that is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicles. It pulses for a fraction of a second and vaporizes the pigment, disabling numerous follicles to eliminate or significantly impede hair growth. Healthy hair grows in three stages. First, the growing or anagen stage. Second, the resting or telogen stage. Third, the transitional or catagen stage. Laser treatment destroys active follicles. Over the course of laser hair removal multiple sessions you will see hair become progressively lighter and finer as the laser gradually destroys the follicle. You can expect to see 75% to 95% reduction in hair growth over the course of your treatment.

before after hair removal procedure

Laser hair removal is more than just ”zapping” unwanted hair. It is a medical procedure that requires training to perform and carries potential risks. Before getting laser hair removal, you should thoroughly check the credentials of the doctor or technician performing the procedure. If you are planning on undergoing laser hair removal, you should limit plucking, waxing, and electrolysis for six weeks before treatment. That’s because the laser targets the hairs’ roots, which are temporarily removed by waxing or plucking. You should also avoid sun exposure for six weeks before and after treatment. Sun exposure makes laser hair removal less effective and makes complications after treatment more likely.

Your clinician will provide you with specific follow-up care instructions. Below are some general guidelines for what you can expect as you heal.
After your treatment, expect to be able to resume your normal daily activities. You will notice redness at the treatment site, which should resolve in a day or two. You can manage any discomfort that you have with wrapped ice packs or gel packs (do not apply ice directly to skin). You may bathe and shower as usual, but keep in mind that the treated area may be temperature sensitive.
Until redness has resolved, avoid the following:

  • Sun exposure and tanning on the treated area. Apply an SPF 45 or greater sunscreen to prevent injury to the treatment area and to prevent changes in pigmentation.
  • Applying cosmetics to the treated area.
  • Swimming, especially in pools with chemicals such as chlorine.
  • Hot tubs, Jacuzzis, and saunas.
  • Activities that cause excess perspiration or any activity that may raise your core body temperature.
  • Aggressive scrubbing and use of exfoliates on the treated area.
after treatment care

Seeing ingrown hairs, bumps and irritation after having laser hair removal is not uncommon and can happen with any laser hair removal treatments. At VS MedSpa Laser Clinic we have the SOLUTION.  Our specialists will provide the follow-up care to prevent the inflammation of the treated area. WE KNOW HOW!

We typically recommend a series of 6 treatments every 6 weeks for new patients. Due to the normal hair growth cycle, touchup sessions may be needed to ensure all unwanted hair is successfully removed.

One of the biggest benefits to laser hair removal is that it is much less painful than electrolysis. The laser procedure itself is not nearly as painful, and since sessions are shorter, the patient does not need to experience repeated and continued discomfort. Laser hair removal is often less costly than electrolysis as well.
